So what exactly is creative writing? Well
that asks the question what exactly do you want your writing to do?
Do you send out mail or copy to increase your
business? Do you do it create more profits? Do you want it to bring in
more clients?
or... do you do it to waste a stack of cash, because
you have it to spend? Of course you don't you want it to increase, that's the
bottom line, after all that's why you are in business, right?
"dump the ego and smile"
Years ago when I was a teenager (now that really is
years ago :-) I used to write
lyrics for a band. The writing was done for the purpose of stimulating my
own brain, in a way I thought was creative and to some extent... it was.
You could be writing Poetry for your self, pages and
pages of the stuff and that would be mentally creative, for your own
purposes.
I could try and re-create that kind of stuff in
sales letters but... it just wouldn't work for your business. My ego is dumped
as far as sales copy is concerned.
I see and read sales letters everywhere these days, which I
suppose you could call creative but only in the sense they have been
written again purely for the ego or the creator.
But the problem with writing for the ego...
it will never create any kind of response for the prospects we are trying
to convince of our services or products. It just alienates the reader.
Let you show you a bit more ego... when all four of my
children were born I wrote a poem about the experience the very same day.
I love the poems, they stimulate my ego and bring back stacks of memories.
If I gave it to you and you read it, it would
mean nothing what so ever. When I read it though it means a lot, conjures
up a moment and gets my brain moving.
The question is then... are you creating copy for
your prospective customers or are you creating writing for your self?
Sadly in sales copy or letters most writers leave
out the readers. They write for them selves first and the reader last. To
them strangely... that is creative writing. Even worse... they charge big
bucks for it and response is usually unmeasured.
Here is what creative writing should be for you
the Business person...
====
It should be a bunch of text that address YOUR
PROSPECTS THOUGHTS OR PROBLEMS. It should offer a solution, create
response, generate leads, create sales.
====
Why should you pay me for something that doesn't
work? Why should you pay any copywriter for work, that doesn't work. Would
you pay for a new computer that didn't work?
Creative writing should take into account the bottom
line, profits and everything else you expect from your Business.
If you are looking for a creative writer that
studies your clients mindset, thoughts and actions before putting pen to
paper. Creates higher response and writes for the bottom line, contact me
on the usual place below.
