A week or so ago, a project a 'long time
preparing' finally rolled out for a good client of
mine.
He emailed me in
January 2007 and asked me to write some real punchy,
powerful sales copy for him.
Honestly, I was
far too busy and told him so.
He emailed me and asked again and again and
again. I caved in and told him I would do it but it would be
about 4 months before I deliver anything!
Fine he said "I want
you and you only to write this copy" I will wait as long as
I have to.
So finally here it is,
done and being tested as I type now. So far the result have
been pretty astonishing, I'll give you some numbers in a
second.

Now I know he won't
mind me saying this ... his site was very average in terms
of ...
Presentation or
layout, graphics, design.
Copywriting or
sales pitch using the right words for a reaction or mind
triggers for sales, at the right time.
Offer or a
reason for the reader to simply have no other option than
saying YES I will order right now.
Today I'd like to share
with you just ONE HUGE difference that took this letter from
NOT ONE SALE to just under $50,000 in sales during the first
TEST run over 5 days!
Now can I ask you a
question... why has one headline clearly outsold the other?

Now listen close I am
about to share a very simple secret of successful sales
writing here for you.
Have you ever had
someone come up to you, someone you hardly know, in fact
someone you do not know at all and tell you how successful
or amazing they are?
I know I have and in my
mind here is what happens.
As they make these huge
claims, my mind starts to question everything. Does yours?
They say how much cash
or success they have, I think to myself ... PROVE IT!
They talk numbers,
cars, holidays and other success trappings. I am still
saying ... PROVE IT!
Does that happen with
you?
Okay go back to both
headlines again.
Headline 1 makes a
claim, says it's all a big secret, quotes a huge amount and
then tells the reader how they can do it easily! ... again
...
How does your mind
react? Mine says .... "yeah, yeah, yeah, prove it". How
about YOU?
Now headline 2 (or the
80 sales in 5 days headline) does this.
States the actual
number backed up by a photograph (on the sales page) in line
1.
The smaller subheads
are all ended with what? Re-read now for yourself.
Can you see it? It has
a line of supporting text that teases them to keep reading
further down. This line has a three-fold purpose.
1. To counteract the;
yeah, yeah, yeah mindset.
2. To support the claim
made in the bullet.
3. To take the reader
by the hand and guide them further into the copy gently.
Did you see that? Was
it obvious to you?
Maybe yes, maybe no,
it's the tiny subtleties that make the huge difference to
sales.
However again here are
the facts ...

Of course, there are
far more variables involved here but I hope this gives you a
tiny insight into the difference between success and
failure.
