COPYWRITING & AI

COPYWRITING Vs. AI

There is already another blog article on my website about this here.

But let's add this.

For 5% copywriters, this IS NOT a threat.

For most copywriters - this will kill them off.

Contradiction?

After spending more time going through, testing, suggesting and writing with A.I. and what it can do I am reporting back to you this. It's pretty cool, has surprising results, and can deliver some excellent copywriting skills.

The Power of EDITING

But I also want to say it definitely does have issues. The accuracy and the edit are not what I would say is excellent. I would barely say 50% perfect. So if you are going to use A.I. to write copy you’d better become a strong editor. One thing I constantly repeat to my copywriting mentees is this … “The power of your copy is in the EDIT.’ So can A.I. write effective copy? It’s a yes and no answer from me right now.

You will be able to write copy as a copywriter or a business person using A.I. but ONLY IF you are a brilliant editor. Ignore the edit and your copy using A.I. could let you down very badly.

I will say this. As far as technology goes it only ever gets better. A.I. will only get better when it comes to general copywriting. But when it comes to specialist writing, direct response packed with all the triggers, buzzwords, tricks, power buttons and so forth I’m really not that sure - let’s see what time brings.

Who Will Use AI?

Everyone. I think the effect for most copywriters will be clients will try A.I. (if they've heard of it) before they spend cash on a copywriter. The bigger effect will be a reduction in clients. Yet even then that will take years to happen. But it is emerging that more and more copywriters - lazy ones - are using AI as their first stop. Long-term this is a huge mistake and could cost copywriters their job.

A mentee reported to me recently that he has been asked to help out with a client’s website. He was then informed they wanted his advice NOT his copy skills. They told him that they only use AI for copy because it is instant.

There is a warning or two in there.

For example, I have clients that have never thought about building an email list or following. Once we talk about it they feel they have discovered something revolutionary. To get a sense of that I began collecting email lists in 1997. It will take time and probably a long time to filter through.

So RIGHT NOW there is no panic for a reduction in clients for copywriters although GEN Zers are great marketers without paying for marketing.

Do This

As a copywriter, you really will have time to modify your services, skillsets and services.

If you fail to do so you could be looking to change your career.
